Jimmy Buffett's Skin Cancer Was Rare, But Cases Are Growing

According to scientists, Jimmy Buffett's unusual kind of skin cancer is becoming increasingly common in the United States.

Buffett passed away from Merkel cell cancer, a rare yet deadly condition that strikes one in every 130,000 Americans.

The Skin Cancer Foundation reports that cases will increase in frequency from 3,000 annually to 3,250 annually by 2025. According to doctors, men over 65 who are frequently exposed to sunlight without adequate protection are most at risk for acquiring Merkel cell cancer.
