Hawaii Senators Want Independent Investigator to Review Wildfires

A group of nine of Hawaii’s state senators wants the state’s attorney general to appoint an independent investigator to review the wildfires that hit Maui.

  • Democratic Sen. Jarrett Keohokalole said in an email Wednesday (August 16),
“Our hope is that that investigation will reveal the causes of this disaster and point to actions that need to be taken to prevent future tragedies.”
  • The wildfires on Maui have killed at least 111 people, over 1,000 people are still unaccounted.
  • The Maui wildfires are the deadliest in the U.S. for the past 100 years.
