LOS ANGELES (CNS) - It's been unseasonably cool for the past two months, and it has been historically pleasant in parts of Los Angeles County, the National Weather Service is reporting Friday.

From May 1 to June 29, a 60-day stretch, the high temperature in downtown Los Angeles did not reach 80. It is the longest recorded streak of days with high temperatures below 80 during May and June in downtown Los Angeles since 1878.

The previous longest streak was 59 days from May 2 to June 29 in 1916. The highest temperature during the current streak was 79 on June 17 and June 21.

If the high temperature reaches 80 in downtown Los Angeles Friday, which is likely, May and June will still have the fewest days with highs reaching or exceeding 80. It happened once. The previous fewest number of days reaching or exceeding 80 in May and June was two, in 1905, 1916 and 1935.

The last time temperatures reached or exceeded 80 in downtown Los Angeles was April 22, when it was 86.

The highs in downtown Los Angeles are expected to be in the low 80s Friday and the mid 80s on Saturday.

Excessive heat warnings are in effect in parts of Los Angeles County from 10 a.m. Saturday until 8 p.m. Sunday.

Dangerously hot conditions with afternoon high temperatures from the mid-90s to 105 are in the forecast for the Interstate 5 corridor, Western San Gabriel Valley mountains, Highway 14 corridor, Mount Pinos, Gorman, Pyramid Lake, Acton, Warm Springs and Mill Creek.

The NWS recommends drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air- conditioned rooms and staying out of the sun.
