Some of the health hazards astronauts face in orbit are illustrated in a recent study.

According to research, immune system damage can occur in astronauts who spend more than 4.5 months in space, leaving them more prone to illnesses or germs.

In space, leukocytes—bone marrow cells that aid in disease resistance—were present at barely one-third the usual quantity.
