Texas Cheerleaders Shot After Getting Into Wrong Car

Two Texas cheerleaders are recovering from bullet wounds after one of them accidentally got into the wrong car.

  • The incident happened Tuesday in the parking lot of the Woodlands Elite Cheer Company, located in Elgin, police say. Cheerleader Heather Roth, who was driven to the parking lot by one of her teammates, opened the door of what she thought was her car – and found a man sitting in the passenger seat, according to Woodlands Elite owner Lynne Shearer. Although Roth panicked and immediately got back into her friend’s car, the man got out of his vehicle and opened fire on the girls, Shearer says. Roth was grazed by a bullet while her friend, 18-year-old Payton Washington, was shot in the back and leg, police say.
  • Police have not revealed whether the shooter has been arrested.
