Southwest Tries To Reduce Cancelations

Southwest Airlines is trying to fix things.

  • Following extreme weather and cancelations this past winter that led to thousands of angry travelers, and even a senate hearing, the company is putting a plan in place.
  • A rep for the airline explained, “We had insufficient winter infrastructure and equipment in key airport locations to adequately react to a winter storm of Elliott’s epic scale, velocity, and duration, and we faced staffing challenges from the need to rotate employees outside in bitter winter weather. These issues hindered our ability to keep our flight crew networks flowing from key crew bases.”
  • The airline says it conducted an internal review and based on those findings, will now be reinforcing airport infrastructure, increasing equipment, and further preparing the airline as a whole for winter weather.
