The devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria has killed more than 36,000 people. More than 30 countries, including the U.S., has sent help to the region because it's a race against time to help save those trapped beneath the rubble.

When the LA County Fire Department's Urban Search and Rescue Team headed to Turkey and Syria just hours after the earthquake happened, they had with them six K-9 members that were trained right here in Southern California at the National Search Dog Foundation in Santa Paula.

These are very special dogs, most times rescued from local shelters and trained specifically for this task.

Jennifer spoke to Denise Sanders, Director of Communications and Search Team Operations at the Search Dog Foundation about these dogs and what goes into choosing them and training them for this lifesaving work.

You can DONATE to them to help them continue their amazing work.
