"Varsity Blues" Ringleader Rick Singer Sentenced to Over Three Years

Rick Singer, the brains behind the 2019 college admissions scandal was given a 3 and half-year prison sentence for his role in the scheme.

The scheme, later named Operation Varsity Blues, involved wealthy parents paying large sums of money on behalf of their children to cheat on standardized tests, bribing university coaches and administrators who were involved in admissions to get them into university.

In March 2019, Singer plead guilty to conspiracy to commit racketeering, conspiracy to launder money, conspiracy to defraud the US, and conspiracy to obstruct justice.

On top of his 3 1/2 year prison sentence, he will also be on supervised release for another three years and is ordered to pay more than $19 million in restitution.

Singer is required to report to prison on February 27th.
