California Gets $1.1 Billion Grant to Keep Last Nuclear Plant Open

The Biden administration announced that PG&E will be receiving a $1.1 billion government grant to keep California's last nuclear power plant running.

The money from the grant comes from the infrastructure bill passed by Congress last year. It will allow PG&E to pay back the $1.4 billion loan that California lawmakers approved to keep it running.

The Diablo Canyon plant, which provides roughly 8% of California's electricity, was currently scheduled to go offline permanently by the year 2025.
