British Prime Minister Liz Truss announced her resignation on Thursday.
- "I recognise... given the situation I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative Party," Truss said in her statement.
- Truss ended her statement with, "I will remain as prime minister until a successor has been chosen. Thank you"
- Truss' 45 days in the official position are the briefest served in U.K. history.
- Just a day earlier, Truss shared that she had no intention of leaving office and called herself “a fighter and not a quitter.”
