Gas stations in Tijuana are providing San Diego residents with a haven from historically high fuel prices. Tijuana's petrol price presently 22.29 pesos a liter, or $4.46 per gallon. That is about $2 less than the current San Diego County average of $6.42.
The primary reason for the price disparity is that Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has kept gas prices low by supporting oil companies and refineries. Furthermore, Mexican gasoline fulfills lower emission standards than California gasoline.
