After a flash flood partially washed out the road through the Southern California desert, officials plan to fully reopen the main highway from Los Angeles to Phoenix by the beginning of next week.
Amid the most recent series of monsoonal thunderstorms to hit the area this summer, this flooding started on Wednesday, August 24.
On August 26, the California Department of Transportation stated that the detour lane should be restored, reopening both eastbound lanes to vehicles.
The road damaged was a detour around a maintenance project close to the small town of Desert Center, which is located about 165 miles east of Los Angeles.
