At least seven separate incidents involving firearms found hidden within gas stations and convenience stores were reported by Atlanta police this year.
- Atlanta Police often go inside the convenience stores to recover guns from behind candy bars, in coolers, or anywhere that guns can be stashed.
- Police Chief Darin Schierbaum revealed that more than 1,200 weapons were discovered by officers in 2022, an increase of 11% from 2021.
- According to Schierbaum, 76 of the 83 homicides in Atlanta this year involved the use of a firearm, and four of the 83 homicides took place at gas stations.
