Father of Highland Park Suspect Could Have Some 'Responsibility' for Attack

The father of the Highland Park shooting suspect Robert E. Crimo III "may have responsibility in certain circumstances," according to police.

The suspect was too young to get a gun permit in 2019, so his father sponsored one for him... This is even after the suspect had threatened to harm himself and others.

When the suspect's father signed an affidavit sponsoring him, he had agreed to be "liable for any damages resulting from the minor applicant’s use of firearms or firearm ammunition.”

"There’s probably going to be a civil litigation," Illinois State Police Director Brendan Kelly said. "There is ongoing criminal prosecution, criminal investigation…That determination and the answer to that question is something that will have to be decided in court."
