A Florida teen says she survived a shark attack by punching it repeatedly in the face.
Seventeen-year-old Addison Bethea says she was in the water looking for scallops near Keaton Beach last week when a nine-foot shark latched onto her leg.
"I didn't really know exactly what to do, but I knew that with sharks you're supposed to punch them in the nose to get them off of you, and I couldn't get around to punch him in the nose...So I just started socking it in the face and then poked its eyes and I tried to latch it off me with my fingers, and then it bit my hand."
Her brother, Rhett Willingham, a firefighter/EMT heard her screaming and was able to pull her away and onto land.
Unfortunately, despite her escape her leg sustained severe damage and is scheduled to be amputated.
Despite it all Bethea says she's managed to keep things light by surrounding her hospital bed with the stuffed sharks friends have sent her.
"Everyone who knows me knows I take humor in everything, so, yeah, I just like stuffed sharks...I think it's funny. Just making light of the situation. I mean, a shark has always been there; it just happened to attack me that day."
