Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is recovering after being attacked by an employee at a Staten Island, New York, supermarket.
The New York Police Department says Giuliani was slapped in the “mid-back” Sunday at a ShopRite while on the campaign trail for his son Andrew Giuliani’s gubernatorial campaign.
Giuliani says he nearly fell down from the blow.
The ShopRite employee was detained and is facing a second-degree assault charge.
Andrew Giuliani’s campaign released a statement saying, “The assault on my father, America’s Mayor, was over politics. We will not be intimidated by left wing attacks. As governor I will stand up for law and order so that New Yorkers feel safe again.”
