According to ABC15 first responders got the call about the woman in the canal just after noon. They arrived to find the woman and her dog stuck in the canal. After multiple attempts to rescue the woman, including a strap being used to rescue her that ended up breaking, sheriff's deputies and Wellton police officers were able to pull her our of the water.

The woman let her dog run around the desert and did not know about the canal. The dog had jumped in the water, and could not climb out on it's own so the woman went in to help her dog out of the canal. The conductor of a train saw the canal as the train was riding by the next day and called 9-1-1. Both were rescued with no severe injuries.
