Report: Top Paid LA County Lifeguards Made Up to $500K in 2021

A new report shows the amount some Los Angeles County lifeguards were paid in 2021.

The OpenTheBooks Substack report showed that certain lifeguards were able to make over $500,000 in the calendar year.

In 2019, according to OpenBooks Substack found that the highest paid lifeguards made approximately $392,000.

The job has become even more lucrative in the years since, according to the report.

As explained in the report, Daniel Douglas was the most highly paid lifeguard, earning a whopping $510,283. An increase from $442,712 in 2020.

As the “lifeguard captain,” he out-earned 1,000 of his peers in terms base salary ($150,054), perks ($28,661), benefits ($85,508), and a massive $246,060 in overtime pay.

The second highest paid lifeguard was chief Fernando Boiteux who made $463,517 – a profit which was up from $393,137 last year.

The auditors at OpenTheBooks.com discovered that 98 LA lifeguards earned at least $200,000 including benefits in the last year.

Meanwhile, 20 made. between $300,000 and $510,283. Another 37 lifeguards made between $50,000 and $247,000 in overtime alone.

Beach lifeguards make a significant amount more than pool lifeguards who make approximately $45,030, including pay and benefits.
