Meet The New Oldest Living Dog: 22-Year-Old Pebbles

The world record holder was named just weeks prior to Pebbles being crowned the oldest living dog. Pebbles is a toy fox terrier and was crowned “Oldest Living Dog” by the Guinness World Records Organization back on May 17th when she turned 22 years and 50 days old.

Residents of Taylors, South Carolina, owners Bobby and Julie Gregory brought Pebbles into their family back in March 2000.

It was only April of this year that the Guiness World Records crowned TobyKeith, a 21-year-old Chihuahua from Florida, as the oldest living dog.

The Gregory family received word of the record having been set by TobyKeith as many of their family members and friends realized the Pebbles was likely older.

“Bobby was sitting on the couch and friends and family started texting and calling about a story they saw about a 21-year-old dog getting the record,” shared Julie Gregory with Guiness World Records. “When I saw TobyKeith’s story all over the news, I applied.”

It didn’t take long for Guiness World Records to confirm Julie’s application, as Pebbles now sits atop the heap as the record holder for oldest pup. Pebbles continues to spend her days sleeping until the evening while listening to country music, unfazed by her newfound fame.

“She loves listening to country music while she’s sleeping. Her two favorite country singers are Conway Twitty and Dwight Yokum,” said Julie. Pebbles also enjoys warm baths and a good meal (who doesn’t?). As a special treat for her 22nd birthday, Pebbles chowed down on a rack of ribs and some cake.

The 22-year-old is in excellent health given her age, with a diet that caters to her physical needs. Julie shares that the secret to supporting pet longevity is to treat each animal “like family because they are. Give them a happy, positive environment as much as possible, good clean food, and proper healthcare.”

“We truly love her more than anything, so for her to have this time to shine is truly precious to us,” she added.
