COVINA (CNS) - A man who threatened a Covina police officer with a knife in a secured parking area at the department headquarters was arrested after responding officers used a less-lethal device, authorities said today.
The arrest occurred about 6:15 p.m. Friday at the Covina Police Department headquarters at 444 N. Citrus Ave., according to Detective Oswaldo Preciado.
A man identified as 75-year-old Monrovia resident Luis Hurtado followed a police vehicle into a secured area, Preciado said. Hurtado ``brandished a knife in a threatening manner and made statements consistent with his desire for police to take his life,'' the detective said.
More officers responded and used a less-lethal device to take Hurtado into custody, Preciado said. No officers were injured and the incident was under investigation by the District Attorney's Office, he said.
