Sacramento Police Department's 'Gas for Guns' Event Runs Out of Gas Cards

The Sacramento Police Department is looking to get guns off the street -- by offering gas money in exchange.

Over the weekend, the department held a 'gun buyback' event, where people could hand in a firearm in exchange for a $50 gas card.

And it turned out to be a popular move, because they ran out of gas cards within 45 minutes!!!

Guns were accepted "with no questions asked and no identification required". And police said several of the weapons were "illegally configured" or so-called "ghost guns".

“As a department, we will continue to use innovative ideas to increase the safety of our community,” Sacramento Police Chief Kathy Lester said. “I truly believe violent crime prevention is a shared responsibility and today’s overwhelming community participation is evidence of the success we can achieve together.”
