Polly's Pies was founded in Fullerton in 1968 by brothers Eddie and Don Sheldrake – both are in their 90s now and in good health. Eddie is still involved in the business. Many assume Polly’s was named for the founders’ mother. Wrong. The first location’s door handles were shaped like the letter “P.” End of story. While breakfast is popular at the restaurant, Polly’s didn’t start serving the morning meal until 1989 – 21 years after its founding. While patriarchs Eddie and Don have a large, extended family, only Eddies’ granddaughter, Jacklyn, works for the company. Jim Kaa, president and CEO, is a bit of a celebrity having founded the band The Crowd. While his punk days are behind him, he still takes to the stage at local venues with his band 16 Again. Polly’s Pies has survived 54 years (and a pandemic!). Take a listen to how they get ready for the holidays.
