An American man has died while fighting alongside Ukrainian forces.
- 22-year-old Willy Joseph Cancel was a former U.S. Marine working for a private military contractor. He was killed on Monday, the family says.
- Cancel's mother told CNN "He wanted to go over because he believed in what Ukraine was fighting for".
- The U.S. State Department said it is "closely monitoring the situation" but has not officially commented.
