Erik Mejia Ureno was charged with two counts each of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon and faces sentencing enhancements for attempted premeditated murder, inflicting great bodily injury and personal use of a deadly weapon.

Ureno is accused of stabbing one man about 6:45 a.m. March 7, 2021, at Vermont Avenue and Citron Street, and another man about 7:45 p.m. June 29, 2021, at 600 E. Ball Road, said Anaheim police Sgt. Shane Carringer. In both cases, the defendant had never met the victims before, Carringer said.

``He approached them without warning or provocation and stabbed them,'' he said. Both victims were taken to area hospitals and survived. Police were able to identify Ureno as a suspect based on evidence left at one of the crime scenes, Carringer said. Ureno is scheduled to be arraigned May 16
