LONG BEACH (CNS) - A sewage spill that originated in Paramount forced the closure today of all beach swimming areas in Long Beach.
According to the city, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works notified Long Beach Tuesday morning that 30,000 to 40,000 gallons of sewage spilled into the Los Angeles River on Monday due to a clogged sewer line in Paramount.
Notices have been posted at beaches throughout Long Beach notifying visitors that the ocean water is off limits due to bacterial concerns. City officials said the ocean water will remain closed until tests find the water meets state health requirements.
