IRWINDALE (CNS) - Authorities today identified a man who was killed when the car he was driving collided with a pickup truck in Irwindale.

Mathew Romo, 25, of Covina died at the scene of the crash that occurred at about 4:30 p.m. Monday on Arrow Highway at Gayhurst Street, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office and the Irwindale Police Department.

According to police, Romo was driving a 2019 Kia sedan east on Arrow Highway when it collided with a 2016 Ford pickup truck that was making a left turn from westbound Arrow Highway to southbound Gayhurst Street.

``As a result of the collision, the Kia sedan subsequently struck a Southern California Edison utility pole, causing a power outage to residences and businesses in the area,'' police said in a statement.

Paramedics pronounced Romo dead at the scene, and took a female passenger to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The driver of the truck, who was not injured, remained at the scene and was interviewed by officers, police said.

Arrow Highway was closed between Elton and Lante streets for about eight hours while an investigation was conducted, police said.

``The cause of this traffic collision remains under investigation and it is not yet known if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision,'' police said.

Anyone with information on the crash was urged to call Officer Shawn Cory at 626-430-2244 or email him at scory@irwindaleca.gov. Information may also be provided anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
