A 54-year-old parolee was arrested today in South Los Angeles on suspicion of shooting to death a 22-year-old man in Long Beach, authorities said. Officers were sent to the 5400 block of Long Beach Boulevard at about 5:40 a.m. Saturday  regarding a report of a man down. They were told by paramedics already at the location that Christian Santillan, suffering from a single gunshot wound to the upper body, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Long Beach Police Department reported.

``After examining the scene and contacting witnesses, detectives learned a male subject driving a silver van was involved in the murder,'' police said in a statement. ``Through their thorough investigation, detectives discovered evidence at the scene that enabled them to identify the shooter as 54-year-old Quinton Anderson.''

Detectives located the van registered to Anderson parked on the street in the 900 block of East 109th Street in South Los Angeles. Detectives said they saw him leave a residence near the van at about 6:45 a.m. Sunday and he was taken into custody without incident.

``At this time, detectives are still working to determine the motive for the shooting and the connection between Anderson and the victim,'' police said. ``Both Anderson and the victim are believed to be experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles County.'' Anderson was arrested on suspicion of murder and was held without bail on an outstanding parole violation. Long Beach homicide detectives urged anyone with information regarding the shooting to call them at 562-570-7244 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
