LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A power outage in the downtown Los Angeles area today prompted calls for firefighters to assist people in stuck elevators, but no one was injured.

The outage was reported around 1:10 p.m. and lasted for about 20 minutes, according to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.

The cause of the problem was not immediately known, nor was the extent of the outage, the LADWP said.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to ``a number of `stuck elevator' and `automatic fire alarm' calls in numerous buildings in the affected area,'' the department's Margaret Stewart said.

``These are common occurrences when a building loses power,'' Stewart said. ``We have no reports of any injuries.''
