Police Seek Driver Who Struck, Killed Woman Crossing Harbor Gateway Street

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Traffic investigators are asking for the public's help in locating the driver of a vehicle that fatally struck a woman as she crossed a street in the Harbor Gateway area of Los Angeles.

She was identified Saturday as 33-year-old Elizabeth Ruiz of Gardena, according to the coroner's office. Ruiz was killed just after 11 p.m. Friday as she crossed Vermont Avenue just north of 186th Street, detectives with the Los Angeles Police Department's South Traffic Division said.

She was crossing westbound when she was struck by ``a black, early model, medium-sized sedan''  heading northbound on Vermont Avenue. The driver failed to stop and attempt to render aid, police said in a press release.

Reuiz was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Detectives noted that a reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members who provide information leading to the driver's identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
