Verizon, AT&T Slow 5G Rollout After Complaints From Airlines

Verizon and AT&T are slowing down a planned 5G rollout, in response to complaints from major airlines that the technology could cause 'chaos'.

  • 5G frequencies can potentially interfere with the instruments airplanes use to measure altitude. Earlier this week, the CEOs of several airlines including Delta, United, and American claimed the expansion would leave thousands of planes grounded and make supply chain issues even worse.
  • On Tuesday, both Verizon and AT&T announced that they would delay activating 5G towers near airports, while working with airlines and the FAA on a solution.
  • Should the government have stepped in here directly?
