A robot skeleton? Scientists are developing a type of morphing 'microbot' that can take the shape of bones - or other objects.
- The technology is inspired by the way actual bones grow and develop - with bits of soft tissue called 'fontanelles' that harden into bone, like with a baby's skull.
- The same principle applies to the microbots, which begin as a soft gel before hardening into the shape needed.
- The bots could be used to treat complex fractures, by injecting them with a syringe an letting them harden into artificial bone.
- Do you think biotechnology like this will ever become commonplace? How would you feel about having robot bones?
