A North Carolina trooper was hit and killed by his own brother, a fellow trooper, during a traffic stop on Monday, according to authorities.
- Trooper John Horton was conducting a traffic stop in Rutherford County just before 9 p.m. when his brother, Trooper James Horton, was called to assist.
- Trooper James reportedly lost control of his vehicle and collided with his brother's patrol vehicle.
- Trooper John and the driver of the car pulled over, who was also killed, were struck while standing on the side of the road.
A press release from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said, "Our hearts are broken."
