A Mexican fish once believed to be extinct has been successfully been reintroduced into the wild.
- The "tequila splitfin," or "zoogoneticus tequila," disappeared from a Mexican river in the '90s. It has now been reintroduced to the location after the species had been cared for in captivity.
- The fish disappeared from the habitat due to human activity, pollution, and species not native to the location.
- After years of work and an improvement of the river, researchers were able to breed and care for the fish before allowing them to be free.
