Homeless Man Dies Following Long Beach Shooting, Suspect Sought

LONG BEACH (CNS) - A homeless man who was shot at a park in Long Beach last week has died at a hospital, authorities said today.

Omar Akers, 33, was shot at about 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 29 in the 800 block of East Seventh Street, and died Tuesday, the Long Beach Police Department reported.

``The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was in the park when an unknown suspect or suspects approached him and began shooting,'' police said in a statement.

No arrests have been reported, and no suspect description was available. A motive for the shooting was not known, police said. Anyone with information on the crime was urged to call homicide detectives at 562-570-7244, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
