LONG BEACH (CNS) - A man was taken into custody after barricading himself in his residence in an upscale East Long Beach neighborhood for several hours on Thanksgiving Day, authorities said today.
Joseph Meneghini, 43, was taken into custody following the standoff in the 3100 block of Claremore Avenue, Long Beach Police Lt. David Frazier said.
Officers went to the location about 2 p.m. Thursday regarding an ``attempted assault with a deadly weapon,'' Frazier said.
``The weapon used was a vehicle,'' Frazier said in a statement. ``After the incident, the suspect entered his residence and refused to come out. Additional residents of the location were safely removed by officers on scene.
``The SWAT team was activated and responded to the location,'' Frazier said. ``After several hours of trying to get the suspect to surrender, the SWAT Team was used to take the suspect into custody.''
The investigation was ongoing, Frazier said. The location is across from the Newcomb Academy K-8 school in the El Dorado Park Estates neighborhood.
