"Sesame Street" has introduced its first Asian-American muppet... Ji-Young!
Ji-Young will be making history as the show's first Asian-American muppet. Ji-Young is Korean-American and loves to play the electric guitar and skateboard.
"So, in Korean traditionally the two syllables they each mean something different and Ji means, like, smart or wise. And Young means, like, brave or courageous and strong," ... "But we were looking it up and guess what? Ji also means sesame."
The muppet said in an interview.
Ji-Young will be portrayed by puppeteer, Kathleen Kim - who is a Korean-American herself.
The muppet will make her debut in "See Us Coming Together: A Sesame Street Special" - which drops on Thanksgiving Day on HBO Max. Naomi Osaka, Simu Liu, and Padma Lakshi will be some of the celebrities that will be featured in the Sesam Street special.
This is exciting!
