It has been more than 20 years that the family of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie have graced our television screens on The Simpsons. The family lives in a fictional town named Springfield, sharing a fence with neighbor Ned Flanders.
Over the run of the show, viewers have been shown different parts of the home, including the basement, dining room, kitchen, hidden “rumpus room,” treehouse and the kids’ bedrooms. Oh yeah, and the 2-car garage shown in every opening sequence.
Having a bit of fun, realtors have complied all aspects of the property and have slapped a quote on the home based off today’s market.
The 2,200 square-foot, four-bed, two-and-a-half bath house would command a decent $449,900. In a description you’d normally find for a house on the market, the team at Garretts Real Estate Group wrote: “Beautiful two-story home with basement. Through the arched front door, you are welcomed into the foyer. To the left is a cozy sitting room with a bay window, and to the right, is the dining room that also features a nice bay window. Towards the back of the home, is the living room and kitchen.”
“The second story,” continues the description, “features four bedrooms! A master bedroom that offers a nice ensuite bathroom. There is also an additional bathroom upstairs. The backyard is surrounded by a wooden picket fence and a low box hedge. Also a patio and a custom treehouse!”
The famous piece of property also happens to be centrally located, surrounded by amenities that include the Springfield International Airport, the General Hospital, The Wax Museum, Springfield Elementary and the mall.
According to the team, “Determining the exact cost of the Simpson home is a bit tricky, but after looking at the numbers and some of the notable features, the home sits somewhere in the ballpark of $449,000.
The team gathered an average price of recently sold homes in Springfield, Oregon, the home of Simpsons writer Matt Groening and took a handful of homes that resembled the one at 742 Evergreen. “Taking the average price per square foot into account ($213) and multiplying by the presumed Simpson home size of 2200 sq/ft, we arrive at the number $449,000. While Homer may be a bumbling fool, he does have an excellent job at the local power plant that likely pays him somewhere between $75,000 and $85,000 annually. “…Homer has some serious equity and likely paid far less for the home than its current value.”
