LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The Los Angeles Football Club will host the Vancouver Whitecaps FC tonight in their final regular-season home game of 2021,seeking a victory to keep their hopes of qualifying for the Major League Soccer playoffs alive.
LAFC enters tonight's game at Banc of California Stadium ninth in the13-team Western Conference standings with 44 points, three points behind Vancouver which is in seventh place. The top-seven teams in the conference qualify for the playoffs.
If LAFC (12-12-8) wins there will be several scenarios entering Sunday's season finale at Colorado where it could still qualify for the playoffs. LAFC qualified for the playoffs in each of its first three seasons.
Actor Will Ferrell, a member of LAFC's ownership group, will be the honorary falconer. One of the team's four falcons is released before the start of each game and flies to the center of the field, hunting a lure of the opponent's crest.
The game is the Fan Appreciation Match with numerous giveaways throughout the contest. A fireworks show will follow the game.
Very few tickets remained available as of Monday afternoon, a team official told City News Service.
