At 90, William Shatner Will Be Oldest Person to Go to Space

William Shatner, commonly known as Captain Kirk from “Star Trek,” is set to make history as the oldest person to ever go into outer space.

Set to take part in the next Blue Origin rocket launch from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, the Captain himself will journey into outer space for real this October.

You’ll recall Wally Funk, the 82-year-old who flew into space on the first Blue Origin flight alongside Bezos, 60 years after having been denied the flight with NASA because she was a woman. John Glenn previously held the record before Funk – he was 77.

It’s important to note that Shatner will not technically be an astronaut, as the Federal Aviation Administration issued new guidelines after Bezos’ flight, making it so only those who “demonstrate activities during flight that were essential to public safety, or contributed to human space flight safety” are identified as actual astronauts.
