After weeks of earthquakes occurring, a volcano on Spanish Canary island La Palma erupted on Sunday.
- The eruption comes after a series of 3.8 magnitude earthquakes were felt in the Cumbre Vieja national park.
- Prior to the eruption, around 40 people and their farm animals were evacuated from villages close to the site.
- More people are expected to be evacuated from surrounding areas.
- The last time an eruption occurred in La Palma was in 1971. The first recorded eruption in the area happened in 1430.
