LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped two-tenths of a cent today to $4.405, one day after rising three-tenths of a cent.

The average price is two-tenths of a cent less than one week ago but 1.3 cents more than one month ago and $1.182 higher than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It has risen $1.173 since the start of the year.

The Orange County average price was unchanged, remaining at $4.361, one day after dropping two-tenths of a cent. It is four-tenths of a cent less than one week ago and one-tenth of a cent lower than one month ago but $1.163 more than one year ago. It has risen $1.153 since the start of the year.

“Timing is everything,'' said Jeanette C. McGee, director, AAA external communications, who called mid-September the time when “gas demand starts its seasonal decline.''

“While there may be some price fluctuation, we expect most motorists to see stability at the pump,'' she said.
