SANTA ANA (CNS) - A driver was killed and two passengers were injured in a collision that police said may have been fueled by alcohol early this morning in Santa Ana.
The crash took place around 12:15 a.m. in the area of 4800 W. McFadden Ave., according to the Santa Ana Police Department.
Investigators determined that a Ford Edge was heading east on McFadden at a high rate of speed when it rear-ended a Toyota Sequoia that was also traveling eastbound.
After the crash the Ford veered onto the south sidewalk where it slammed into a utility pole, police said.
The driver died at the scene. That person's age and gender were not immediately disclosed, and the victim's identity will be withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The other two passengers were taken to a hospital, police reported.
Investigators say they found numerous alcohol containers inside the Ford leading them to believe the accident was alcohol-related.
No arrests or other injuries were reported.
