LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Bucking a recent trend, the average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped by two-tenths of a cents today -- falling to $4.333 following 21 increases over the previous 23 days.

The average price still is at its highest level since Oct. 24, 2012.

It has increased 8.7 cents over the past 24 days, including a half-cent on Wednesday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It is 2.5 cents more than one week ago, 8.8 cents higher than one month ago and $1.235 greater than one year ago.

The average price has increased $1.101 since the start of the year because of a sharp increase in the oil price and increased demand due to more people driving to work, according to Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager.

The Orange County average price rose for the 16th time in 19 days, increasing one-tenth of a cent to $4.296, its highest amount since May 3, 2014. It has risen 9.3 cents over the past 19 days, including seven-tenths of a cent Wednesday.
