Radioactive wild boar-pigs roaming near the Fukushima nuclear disaster area

We feel like this story can be a subplot to Jurassic Park.

Radioactive swine hybrids were created when some wild boars roamed into the evacuated Fukushima area bred with domestic pigs who escaped from farms.

"While the radiation hasn't caused a genetic effect, the invasive domestic pig species has," Donovan Anderson, a researcher at Fukushima University told the BBC.

The nuclear disaster, sparked by a massive earthquake and tsunami led to a "biological invasion" of the domestic pig genes, which have been "diluted" over time by the wild boars, who saw their population soar since humans weren't around, researchers found.

Researchers studied DNA samples from 243 local swine and found that 16% of the wild boar from the abandoned area were hybrids.

People that have begun to come back into the radioactive area over the past two years now have a new danger to contend with! But, hey, at least they're not even close to being as dangerous as the Indoraptor...

"Humans are really the only predators for these wild boar, said Anderson. "So as people come back, it'll be really interesting to see what the boar do."

One thing is for sure of what will happen, echoing Dr. Ian Malcom, "I'm simply saying that life, uh... finds a way."
