Netflix's Canceled 'Jupiter's Legacy' Tops Streaming Viewership

HOLLYWOOD (CNS) - The canceled Netflix superhero series “Jupiter's Legacy'' topped the weekly list released today of the most-watched programs on the four streaming services whose viewership figures are announced by Nielsen.

Viewers spent 1.019 billion minutes watching the eight episodes of “Jupiter's Legacy'' between May 10-16, its first full week of release. Viewership was up 46.4% from the 696 million minutes watched the previous week, when it was in the first three days of release.

“StartUp'' was second for the week, with viewers watching 760 million minutes of the 31 episodes of the drama about an attempt to launder stolen money by financing a cryptocurrency that puts entrepreneurs in business with a corrupt FBI agent and a Miami gang.

Viewership was up 357.8% from the 166 million minutes watched the previous week, the first six days the series was available on Netflix. “StartUp'' premiered in 2016 on the then-Sony Pictures-owned streaming platform Crackle.

There were two other programs new to the Top 10. The Netflix comedy “The Upshaws'' was seventh, with 560 million minutes watched of its 10 episodes in its first five days of release. The psychological thriller film “The Woman in the Window'' was ninth, with 500 million minutes watched in the first three days it streamed on Netflix.

Dropping out of the Top 10 were the eight-episode Netflix fantasy “Shadow and Bone,'' the Amazon Prime Video action thriller film “Without Remorse'' and the Netflix biographical drama about the slain Tejano singer Selena, titled “Selena: The Series.''

Last week's leader, “The Mitchells vs. the Machines'' dropped to 10th with 495 million minutes watched, 42% less than the 853 million minutes watched the previous week, the first full week of release for the Netflix computer-animated science fiction comedy film.

“The Handmaid's Tale'' was fifth for the week and the lone non- Netlfix program in the Top 10, with viewers watching 584 million minutes of 41 episodes, including the fifth episode of its of its fourth season, which was released May 12. The Hulu dystopian drama was also fifth for the week the previous week, with 690 million minutes watched of 40 episodes.

Nielsen also announces streaming viewership of Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ programming.

The top 10 consisted of four original streaming series, three series that originally aired on U.S. broadcast or cable networks, two movies and “CoComelon,'' which originated as 3D animation videos of both traditional nursery rhymes and original children's songs on YouTube.

The Top 10 programs were “Jupiter's Legacy''; “StartUp''; “Grey's Anatomy'';  ”NCIS''; “The Handmaid's Tale''; “Criminal Minds''; “The Upshaws''; “CoCoMelon''; “The Woman in the Window''; and “The Mitchells vs. the Machines.''

The figures only reflect television set-related viewing, including such television-connected devices as Roku and Apple TV. Mobile-only viewing is not included in Nielsen's streaming measurement systems.
