When a Robin recently chose to build her nest in an extremely inconvenient location, The village of Potthakudi in India made a major sacrifice to help.
The has 120 homes and 35 streetlights. The bird decided to set up a nest in the town’s main lighting switchboard.
Karuppu Raja is the man who turns on the streetlights at night. He is also a bird lover, so he asked if the town would be willing to go without lights for a while until the hatchlings were old enough to fly away safely.
He was able to persuade his fellow residents that the inconvenience would be worth it.
The town spent 45 nights the dark to keep mom and her chicks safe.
The birds have moved on and the blackout has been was lifted.
