Registration Begins For L.A. Zoo Fitness Fundraiser 'Walk for the Wild'

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Registration opened today for the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association's first virtual fitness fundraiser to raise money for the L.A. Zoo and its work to save threatened species.

The Walk for The Wild, which will run from Earth Day on April 22 through Endangered Species Day on May 21, will allow participants to virtually travel around the world and explore the zoo's global conservation impact.

Participants will walk, bike, run, swim or dance and then track their real-world movement on a virtual map to eight global destinations, including Paraguay, South Africa and India.

The goal is for all participants to walk a collective 14,000 miles across the globe.

Participants will be awarded digital fitness and fundraising badges, exclusive content and rewards based on the fundraising level. People can also join friendly competitions and win prizes.

“Because it's easy for anyone to participate, Walk for the Wild encourages the entire Los Angeles community to engage in a lifelong philanthropic relationship with the L.A. Zoo's wildlife conservation mission, from school children to grandparents. Whoever you are, you can save species from extinction and be a conservation hero,'' GLAZA President Tom Jacobson said.

Through the end of the fitness challenge on May 21, people can register, create a fundraising page and set fitness goals. Before the challenge officially begins on April 22, they can participate in weekly challenges to prepare and inspire them for the walk and to meet their fitness and fundraising goals.

The program is open to those 13 years old and up, and winners of the largest team, top individual and team fundraising and longest distance awards will be announced on May 22.
