LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Moderate to strong Santa Ana winds are expected to return to parts of the Los Angeles area this afternoon and continue through Thursday, prompting the National Weather Service to issue high-wind warnings and advisories.
The weather service issued high wind warnings from 9 p.m. Wednesday to 3 p.m. Thursday for the Santa Monica Mountains, Ventura County Mountains, Los Angeles County Mountains and Santa Clarita Valley.
Gusts in those areas could reach 60 to 65 mph, the weather service said.
Wind advisories were issued from 9 p.m. Wednesday to 3 p.m. Thursday for the San Fernando Valley, the L.A. Coast and Downtown Los Angeles, including Malibu, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Hollywood and Long Beach.
Gusts in those areas could range between 45 and 55 mph.
“Damaging winds could blow down large objects such as trees and power lines,'' the weather service said. “Power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.''
The NWS said the wind event is expected to be “pretty short,'' though another round of gusty winds is expected to return late Saturday into Sunday.
