Average L.A. County Gas Price Rises To Highest Amount Since March 4

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose today for the 23rd time in 24 days, increasing a half-cent to $3.543, its highest amount since March 4.

The average price has risen 19.5 cents over the past 24 days, including nine-tenths of a cent on Thursday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It is 3.7 cents more than one week ago and 24.5 cents higher than one month ago but 2 cents less than one year ago.

The Orange County average price rose for the 37th time in 38 days, increasing a half-cent to $3.524, its highest amount since Feb. 6, 2020. It has increased 30.6 cents over the past 38 days, including 1 cent on Thursday.

The Orange County average price is 3.3 cents more than one week ago, 25.2 cents higher than a month ago and 1.6 cents above what it was one year ago.

“According to Oil Price Information Service, fuel demand on the West Coast is 20% lower than a year ago and gas stations have seen their traffic and revenue reduced, giving them more incentive to raise gas prices and keep them at higher levels,'' said Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager.

“Local refineries also have adjusted their production to align with lower demand and oil prices are more than 10% higher than they were a year ago at this time.''
