6 Hurt, 2 Seriously, in Multi-Vehicle Crashes on Harbor Freeway in Carson

CARSON (CNS) - Two people were hospitalized this morning with major injuries sustained in one of two multi-vehicle crashes in the same area on the northbound Harbor (110) Freeway in Carson that prompted a closure of the freeway for more than three hours.

Minor injuries were reported to four other people.

The accidents occurred about 8:10 p.m. Monday north of 223rd Street, near the Carson Street exit, and involved a total of six vehicles, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A preliminary investigation suggested a GMC pickup truck that was stopped on the right side of the freeway pulled into traffic at a slow speed and was struck by a Lexus sedan that caused the GMC to hit a Peterbilt semi, the CHP said.

The second crash occurred when a Honda Prelude that had stopped for the first accident was hit by a Ford Mustang. The force of the impact caused the Mustang to lose control and crash into a Kia Soul, the CHP said.

Video from the scene showed at least three vehicles had sustained major damage.

The driver of the Prelude and a passenger sustained major injuries and were rushed to a hospital.

All lanes of the freeway reopened about 11:45 p.m.

No arrests were reported.
